Great Britain had a superb result on Friday when they finished joint second in the 5* Nations Cup in Gijon on Friday 3rd September. With Belgium securing first place on a total of 12 penalties, Great Britain finished just one fence alongside Canada and France on 16 penalties in joint second place.

Northampton based Tim Stockdale with Colin and Ann Garratt’s 9 year old bay gelding Fresh Direct Kalico Bay had an unlucky four faults in each round. This partnership took the King George V Gold Cup title at this year’s Royal International Horse Show. They have also been members of the 2010 Falsterbo Meydan FEI Nations Cup.

Recent winners of the Great Yorkshire British Showjumping Business Partnership International Stairway Robert Bevis & Courtney 6 scored eight faults in each round, in this their first appearance at 5* Nations Cup level. Courtney 6 a 9 year old grey gelding owned by Kate Mustill made his first Nations Cup appearance earlier on in the year at Lisbon.

World Equestrian Games (WEG) team members David McPherson & Chamberlain Z having incurred four faults in the first round went on to produce a superb clear in the second round. Chamberlain Z is a 9 year old grey gelding owned by David, and has been a member of 2 Meydan FEI Nations Cup and is showing tremendous Peebles based Scott Brash with his WEG partner Intertoy Z an 11 year old black gelding which is owned by Scott’s Father, Stanley.

This combination made their debut at Top League Nations Cup earlier on in the year where they were members of the La Baule Meydan FEI Nations Cup team. A an incredibly unfortunate four faults in the second round meant that Scott finished on a score of four penalties having jumped a superb clear in the first round. Speaking after the event Rob Hoekstra, World Class Showjumping Performance Manager commented “Its been a great warm up for WEG for two of our riders both of whom went well. It’s also been a great experience for both Tim and Rob’s horse.

We finish our series of Nations Cup competitions for 2010 with great optimism for next year knowing that we have an extended pool of talented horses to choose from”. For start list and results please visit www.gijon.es/chipico
